........ACT ONE.....›.... born in a rural part of england, jyn spent the first eight years of her life moving from place to place. at age eight, her mother was murdered in front of her by her father's employer, and her father was taken. hidden in a cave for hours, she was rescued by a family friend, saw gerrera: mercenary and wanted terrorist.saw took jyn all over the world in the eight years she was with him. since he was on many most-wanted lists in a number of countries, they never stayed for too long in one place. as the partisans were hired for various jobs within active warzones, jyn quickly became an experienced mercenary. she was thrust into multiple wars, and experienced and took part in violence that no one her age should have to witness.at age sixteen, she was his second-in-command until he abandoned her for seemingly no reason. what jyn doesn't know is that the erso name was becoming dangerous – he did it for her own safety, as some of the partisans were getting suspicious of her origins. wanting to get as far away as possible, she ran to the united states. however, she struggled to return to civilian life after essentially being and fighting in a war for the past eight years. she turned to crime and mercenary work in the cities she lived in under different aliases but was eventually caught and sentenced to twenty years in prison for various offenses.due to her association with saw, who was still very much on the fbi's most wanted list, and her expert-level hacking skills, the government reached out to her and offered her a deal six months into her prison sentence. if she worked for them for an indeterminate amount of time, then they would clear her record.at that point, jyn would’ve do anything to get out of prison, so she eagerly accepted. now, she works with the fbi and other associated governmental agencies. that's not to say she has much freedom –– she can't leave the limits of the city she's currently living in, and if she breaks the law again, then she'll be back in jail for the remainder of the twenty years. for someone who’s never living without a bit of “excitement” (aka doing illegal things), it’s a difficult adjustment, not to mention the severe ptsd she developed during her time with saw and in prison, despite her young age.at the same time, she struggles with her past. her father, galen erso, was arrested for the creation of weapons of mass destruction, and the subsequent trial and sentencing was one of the most high-profile cases in the country. though she'd "unofficially" changed names fresh out of prison, her family's legacy looms over her even as she tries to leave her past behind.........ACT TWO.....›....
eventually, jyn's work with the fbi builds up to a scarif-like event. her work is invaluable to stopping some sort of modern death star from destroying a city/country, etc. as a result, jyn is released from her contract and free to do as she pleases, with many of her major criminal charges erased from her record. after a short period to settle herself, she decides to get her ged ( high school diploma test ) and then goes to university to study computer science.for people i’ve been writing with in jyn’s modern verse for a while, we can slowly shift into this post-fbi verse. for newcomers, i’ll default to her regular modern verse unless we’ve specifically plotted to start in the second arc.
